TransCanada Committed to Keystone XL But Will Expand Into Rail, CEO Girling Says

The failed Senate vote Nov. 18 on the Keystone XL oil sands pipeline actually represents "a positive sign" because it showed the number of lawmakers supporting the project is steadily growing, TransCanada Corp. Chief Executive Officer Russ Girling said in a media briefing Nov. 19. Girling said the need still exists for the project, which has cost the company $2.5 billion so far. Girling remained upbeat following the 59-41 vote in the Senate Nov. 18 that fell just shy of a 60-vote threshold required for passage under a bipartisan agreement (see related story).
