Environment Agency Details Actions To Manage Coal Ash Contamination

All known violations of the federal Clean Water Act stemming from coal ash storage at Duke Energy facilities in North Carolina are being addressed, according to the state Department of Environment and Natural Resources. In an Aug. 28 letter to the Southern Environmental Law Center (SELQ, Duke Energy and the Environmental Protection Agency, the state regulatory agency described a number of measures it and other entities have taken to address coal ash contamination issues over the past several months. The agency sent the letter in response to a July 2 notice of intent to sue sent by SELC over alleged violations at Duke Energy's Buck, Cape Fear, and H.F. Lee facilities.
