A Chicago suburb sued various companies that own or serviced property near its public water supply wells, alleging that their activities caused ground-water pollution and seeking compensatory damages (Vill. of Sauk Vill, Ill. v. Broadway Express, Inc., Ill. Cir. Ct., No. 2014-L-004790, 5/1/14). In its May 1 complaint, the Village of Sauk Village, Ill., alleged that chemical spills on the property of YRC Worldwide Inc. and Roadway Express as well as spills on the Lincoln Landfill, operated by Lincoln Ltd., resulted in monetary damages and penalties incurred by the community.
