Global Building Efficiency Goal, Climate Deal On Agenda as Top Emitters Head to Mexico

Negotiators from the United States, China and other top greenhouse gas emitters continue talks May 8-9 in Mexico City on an international goal for improving building energy efficiency as well as progress toward a global climate change agreement, an Obama administration official told Bloomberg BNA May 1. The meeting of the Major Economies Forum on Energy and Climate, or MEF, will bring together environment ministers-but not national leaders-from the European Union and 16 top-emitting countries, many of them rapidly developing countries such as India, Indonesia, Mexico and Brazil.
