Environmental, Industry Group Spending On Lobbying Increases in First Quarter

Environmental and industry organizations ramped up lobbying spending in the first three months of 2014 compared to the same period a year ago, although it is unclear whether the increased spending translates directly into increased influence efforts on Capitol Hill. More than half of the 18 environmental and industry organizations reviewed by Bloomberg BNA increased their lobbying spending in 2014's first quarter compared to 2013's first quarter. The groups whose lobbying spending increased year-over-year included the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the National Mining Association, the Natural Resources Defense Council, the Environmental Defense Fund (including its action fund), the American Chemistry Council, the National Parks Conservation Association, the Sierra Club, the American Petroleum Institute and the American Cleaning Institute.
