NV Energy Inc. Plans to Shut Down Units, Discontinue Coal-Fired Generation by 2019

NV Energy Inc., Nevada's largest utility, is proposing to retire or eliminate 812 megawatts of coal-fired generation over the next six years and to acquire nearly 500 megawatts of existing gas-fired generation needed to provide reliable service. The utility also announced plans to construct 215 megawatts of new, company-owned solar facilities that would add fuel diversity, according to a May 1 filing with the state Public Utilities Commission. It also will seek from the commission the issuance of requests for proposals for three 100-megawatt renewable energy units.
