Federal District Court Upholds Lake Tahoe Basin Development Plan

A federal judge has upheld a development plan for the Lake Tahoe Basin along the California and Nevada border (Sierra Club v. Tahoe Reg'l Planning Agency, E.D. Cal., No. 13-cv-00267, 4/7/14). The April 7 decision from the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of California rejected allegations by environmental groups that the plan violated the Tahoe Regional Planning Compact, a two-state agreement to protect the large Sierra Nevada freshwater lake. Earthjustice filed the lawsuit on behalf of the Sierra Club and Friends of the West Shore in February 2013, just two months after the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency approved the update to a 1987 land-use plan (45 ER 460, 2/14/14).
