Petrochemical Industry Groups Urge DHS To Withdraw Terrorist Screening Proposal

A Department of Homeland Security proposal for screening chemical industry workers for terrorist ties is overly burdensome and should be withdrawn so significant improvements can be made, several petrochemical industry groups said. Specific issues with the personnel surety program cited by the groups include the lack of a guarantee from Homeland Security that it would notify a site should an employee match a terrorist database, too little time to achieve compliance with the program, duplication of other screening programs and a requirement that sites notify the department when an employee no longer has access to a site.
