Green Climate Fund Pledges 50-50 Split Between Adaptation, Mitigation Efforts

The Green Climate Fund, set up to disburse the $100 billion a year pledged by industrialized nations to help vulnerable countries address the effects of climate change, will award half of future funding to adaptation needs and the other half to emissions mitigation, the GCF Board announced Feb. 22. The Green Climate Fund board's pledge to a "50-50" split between mitigation and adaptation efforts was one of several decisions announced by the board at the conclusion of its Feb. 19-21 board meeting in Bali, Indonesia.
