New York City to Expand Energy Efficiency Program as Greenhouse Gas Emissions Drop

A New York City energy efficiency program for buildings will be expanded as the city's emissions of greenhouse gases continue to drop from 2005 levels, Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg (I) and other city officials announced Dec. 30. Greenhouse gas emissions citywide have fallen 19 percent since 2005 and are on track to reach a 30 percent reduction level by 2020, the officials said on the Bloomberg administration's next-to-last day in office. The 2020 target was set in the city's PlaNYC long-term sustainability plan released by the Bloomberg administration in 2007 and revised in 2011.
