Simplot to Spend $42 Million on Controls To Resolve Clean Air Act Violations

A food-processing company will spend about $41.5 million on pollution controls to cut sulfur dioxide emissions at five of its plants in California, Idaho and Wyoming, according to a proposed consent agreement with the Justice Department and the Environmental Protection Agency (United States v. J.R. Simplot Co., D. Idaho, No. 1:15-cv-00562-CWD, 12/3/15). The J.R. Simplot Co. also will pay an $899,000 civil penalty to resolve alleged Clean Air Act violations under a proposed consent decree lodged Dec. 3 in the U.S. District Court for the District of Idaho, the EPA said.
