California Orders Volkswagen to Submit Plan To Recall Diesel Cars With Defeat Devices

The California Air Resources Board has ordered Volkswagen to submit a plan within 45 days to recall and repair diesel engine vehicles equipped with devices to cheat on air pollution emissions tests. "Audi, Porsche and VW are expected to take appropriate corrective action to remedy the nonconformity and return these vehicles to claimed certified configurations which meet required standards," the state said. The state estimates the recall notice will affect between 15,000 and 16,000 vehicles in California. The board also said it is initiating an enforcement investigation into all model year 2009 through 2016 Volksagen, Audi and Porsche vehicles with three-liter diesel engines.
