Ikea Group, the world's biggest home-furnishings retailer, has been going all-out on energy efficiency and renewable energy, from its recent move to sell only light-emitting diode (LED) lamps and bulbs in its stores by 2016 to its pilot of home solar sales. These new products will help customers save energy and cut carbon emissions, and Ikea is doing the same within its own operations. By 2020, the company wants to produce as much renewable energy as it consumes globally. Bloomberg BNA's Andrea Vittorio sat down with Ikea Chief Sustainability Officer Steve Howard after a Sept. 28 event marking the end of this year's Climate Week in New York to talk about current and upcoming sustainability efforts at Ikea stores. This interview has been edited for clarity and length.
