New Efficiency Standards Recommended For Commercial Rooftop Air Conditioners

A working group established by the Energy Department made recommendations that would cut commercial rooftop air conditioner energy use by 30 percent and save up $50 billion in energy costs for business, the largest savings achieved by a standard to date. The Commercial Package Air Conditioners and Commercial Warm Air Furnaces Working Group released its recommendations June 18. It was formed by the Energy Department April 1 to reach a consensus on a standard for energy efficiency for commercial air conditioners and warm air furnaces, as the agency considers developing such rulemaking.
