Pope Francis's closest adviser said U.S. critics are wrong to try to shut the pontiff out of the debate over climate change because the church has a role to play in shaping how emissions are viewed ethically. Francis is due to publish an encyclical, one of the highest forms of papal writings, on humanity's relationship with nature next month in an attempt to influence a United Nations summit on climate change in Paris in December (46 ER 1325, 5/1/15).
