State Receives First Research Lease For Proposed Offshore Wind Energy Project

The Obama Administration awarded its first-ever offshore wind energy research lease to Virginia's Department of Mines, Minerals and Energy to support a plan to station two small wind energy generators off of the state shoreline. The lease is part of President Barack Obama's Climate Action Plan, the Interior Department's Bureau of Ocean Energy Management said March 24. The bureau described the plan as a way to develop domestic clean energy resources and cut carbon pollution (44 ER 1949, 6/28/13).
