摘要

A company planning an iron ore mining project in northern Wisconsin has shuttered its development office there, calling additional investment in the project "unfeasible" due to ongoing permitting problems and uncertainty over the Environmental Protection Agency's response to the project. Gogebic Taconite LLC said Feb. 27 it will close its office in Hurley, Wis., halting five years of work on a vast open-pit iron mine in Ashland and Iron counties. The $1.5 billion project was a key economic priority for Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker (R) but was opposed by tribal authorities, outdoor enthusiasts and environmental organizations.
