DOE Proposes Commercial Furnace Standards Estimated to Save $2.7 Billion Over 30 Years

Proposed energy efficiency standards for commercial furnaces would save consumers as much as $2.7 billion over 30 years in natural gas savings, according to the proposed rule announced by the Energy Department Jan. 16. The standards, the first update in more than 20 years, would increase the minimum required efficiency of both gas-fired and oil-fired commercial furnaces to 82 percent, according to the non-profit Appliance Standards Awareness Project.
