Federal Court Convicts Greek Shipping Firms, Officers for Ocean Dumping

A federal court in North Carolina convicted two Greek-based shipping companies and ship's officers on charges they illegally dumped oily wastes into the sea (United States v. Ignacio, E.D.N.C., No. 7:15-cr-108, verdict 9/1/16). A jury with the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of North Carolina Sept. 1 found Oceanic Illsabe Limited, Oceanfleet Shipping Limited and two of their employees, Rustico Yabut Ignacio and Cassius Flores Samson, guilty on charges related to the dumping, and then covering up the illegal activity.
