Federal-State Enforcement Cases On the Rise, DOJ's Cruden Says

The Justice Department is working with states on a growing number of cooperative pollution law enforcement cases, Assistant Attorney General John Cruden said May 19 at a legal education seminar. "I think we've probably doubled what we've done between last year and this year" in terms of a bigger emphasis on state and federal cooperative enforcement actions, the head of the department's Environment and Natural Resources Division said. Cooperation between federal and state pollution enforcement officials is particularly important in cases across the country involving pollution from stormwater, which he called "one of the most important issues we're looking at right now."
