Colorado Abandoned Mine Legislation Fine-Tuned, Will Move Forward in Congress

Lawmakers on Capitol Hill are preparing to take another stab at legislation to facilitate good Samaritan remediation of abandoned and contaminated mining sites, or "orphan mines." Sens. Michael Bennet (D-Colo.) and Cory Gardner (R-Colo.), along with Rep. Scott Tipton (R-Colo.), are fine-tuning the draft legislation, dubbed the Good Samaritan Cleanup of Orphan Mines Act of 2016, to optimize its chances of passage.
