The drinking water crisis in Flint, Mich., was a failure of the federal-state environmental protection partnership "at every level" but provides an opportunity to develop new technologies to ensure clean wa- ter, Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Gina McCarthy said April 13. Federal and state regulators have not previously been transparent about the presence of certain contaminants in drinking water because they did not know fully how to address them, McCarthy told the Environmental Council of the States in Nashville, Tenn., but she said that approach must end.
