The White House is requesting that Congress provide nearly $8.27 billion to the Environmental Protection Agency for the upcoming fiscal year, a modest 1.56 percent increase from its current funding levels. The Obama administration's annual budget proposal, released Feb. 9, includes a request for a sharp increase in a key drinking water infrastructure fund while proposing an even larger cut in a corresponding wastewa-ter infrastructure fund, a trade-off that left clean water advocates disappointed (see related story).
