EPA Management, Climate Oversight On House Committee To-Do List

Oversight of Environmental Protection Agency policy and management and an examination of energy-related policies are among items featured on the House Energy and Commerce Committee's to-do list under a draft plan to be reviewed by the committee Jan. 24. The committee would oversee the EPA Drinking Water State Revolving Loan Fund program and how to make use of funds most-efficient; conduct oversight of brownfields and Superfund programs, including a proposed financial assurance rule by the EPA; and monitor agency actions on implementing Toxic Substances Control Act changes and regulations on issues such as coal ash, the draft said. The committee also will "undertake a comprehensive review of the nation's electricity system," which would include reviews of Energy Department policy, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission and the EPA affecting the electricity sector, it said.
