Battle Over Costs of Mississippi Clean Coal Project Comes to End

The battle over how much Mississippi customers will pay for Southern Co.'s $7.5 billion abandoned clean coal project has ended. State regulators approved a plan Feb. 6 allowing Southern's Mississippi Power utility to collect $728 million over several years to pay for a natural-gas generator at its troubled power project in Kemper County, Miss. The move comes after the state's public service commission blocked Southern last year from charging customers for the part of the plant that would have converted coal into gas and capture the emissions.
