Lawmakers in California on Thursday authorized an additional $500 million in spending on wildfire prevention and forest resiliency projects, under a junior budget bill passed by bothhouses without any no votes.The money is on top of $833 million approved over two years approved on June 28 and comes as the state plunges deeper into drought, with another heat wave looming, and nearly 4,600fires already reported this year.1. California saw its largest recorded wildfire season in 2020, with more than 4.2 million acres burned by nearly 10,000 wildfires, according to state fire statistics.
