Only LNG Project in the World to Be Cleared This Year Is in Baja

Sempra Energy has decided to build a $2 billion liquefied natural gas export terminal in Mexico, making it the only project of its kind to get the green light in a year when Covid-19 has hurt demand and prices for the fuel.The Energia Costa Azul LNG facility -- which will also be Mexico's first gas export plant -- will be constructed in Baja California and is permitted to produce as much as 3.25 million metric tons of the fuel annually. Sempra plans to buy lower-cost natural gas from the Waha Hub in the Permian Basin in West Texas and move it across the border via its existing pipeline network.
