Environmental Group Continues Fight Over New Mexico Oil Leases

WildEarth Guardians will ask an appeals court to take another look at the government’s decision to approve oil and gas lease sales in New Mexico, according to a notice filed in a federal court in the state. The environmental group said in its lawsuit against the Bureau of Land Management that the agency failed to look at the climate impacts of the sales, as well as the impacts to air and water quality. It alleged violations of environmental laws including the National Environmental Policy Act and Federal Land Policy and Management Act. The NEPA doesn’t require a specific test for measuring the impacts to climate change, the U.S. District Court for the District of New Mexico said in August.
