The cost for power companies to comply with the Northeast's emissions cap-and-trade program remained flat in the first auction of 2018.Carbon allowances for the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative sold for $3.79 in the March 14 auction, according to auction results the initiative announced March 16. The price was roughly even with the $3.80 cost for allowances in the December 2017 auction, but a 26 percent increase over the March 2017 sale.
