Comment On 'polybrominated Diphenyl Ether Flame Retardants In The North American Environment'

In their article, Hale et al. (2003) review the levels, patterns, and trends of the polybrominated diphenyl ether flame retardants in North America. The review provides a valuable synopsis on these important environmental contaminants, but contains the following reference error that, if left uncorrected, will misdirect readers of the scientific literature. On p. 777, the authors state that "Ikonomou et al. (2002) also recently found up to 1000 μg/kg total PBDE in whitefish within a section of the Columbia River, receiving municipal and other wastes, over an order of magnitude higher than 1992 levels."
