Transport geotechnical properties of lateritic soil stabilized with Jarofix and lime

Jarofix is the waste material from zinc-producing industries and has become a critical environmental hazard due to dumping over a large area near the industries. Elaborate studies have not been conducted so far regarding the effective utilization of this waste material. The present paper deals with the effect of Jarofix and lime on the transport geotechnical properties of lateritic soil through laboratory evaluations. The basic properties such as consistency limits, compaction characteristics, unconfined compressive strength (UCS), and soaked CBR were conducted initially, by mixing 10%, 20%, 30%, 40%, and 50% of Jarofix with the soil, and the results were analyzed. During the second phase of the study, 2.5, 5, 7.5, 10, and 12.5% of lime were added to different Jarofix-soil mixes, and all the above-mentioned tests were done. The strength properties with age for different mixes were also studied. The experimental results showed that the mixing of Jarofix alone decreases the strength of the soil, whereas the addition of lime along with Jarofix adds more strength. The optimum percentage of lime to be added along with Jarofix was 7.5% to get maximum CBR values and UCS strength.
