The cost of building greener homes is falling year-on-year, according to new research. Communities Minister Andrew Stunell claims that the average cost of building homes to Code Level 3 standards had fallen by almost three quarters in the past three years - from £4,458 in 2008 to £1,128 in 2010. The fall was revealed in a paper unveiled by the Department for Communities and Local Government, called Cost of Building to the Code for Sustainable Home, The Code for Sustainable Homes began in 2007 and is the national standard for the sustainable design and construction of new homes. Every year since it started, research has been done to discover approximately how much different code standards and components cost.
