Society and The Internet opens with a timeline depicting the development of what today we call the Internet. Between JCR Licklider's 1960 call for a global network and the 2013 launch of Vine, the micro-video service, there is enormous technological progression paved by innovations such as ARPANET, the World Wide Web, Wikipedia, and Facebook. The resulting information system has connected the world in ways that are qualitatively and quantitatively unprecedented. This collection of 23 chapters grouped in five parts surveys how these connections have affected and transformed our social world.
