An amendment offered to energy legislation being debated on the Senate floor this week by Sen. John Thune (R-SD) would require EPA to approve allowing higher percentages of ethanol in conventional gasoline than the current 10-percent limit. The amendment, introduced June 13, comes the same day that engine manufacturers and other industry officials launched a new coalition to stave off any such effort over concerns about unintended impacts of higher ethanol blends.
