Environmentalists are urging President-elect Barack Obama to provide hundreds of millions of dollars in extra funding for key EPA enforcement, waste and water programs as the incoming administration drafts its fiscal year 2010 budget proposal. Save Our Environment, a coalition of 26 major environmental groups, this month unveiled its "Green Budget 2010" that proposes funding boosts for a range of federal environmental programs. While the group's report does not propose an overall level for EPA, the report notes that the Bush administration requested only $7.1 billion for EPA in FY09, a $1.8 billion decrease over the past eight years.
