EPA PLANS WHITE PAPERS TO HELP HARMONIZE WATER, PESTICIDE RISK STUDIES

EPA plans to evaluate in upcoming white papers the tools used to regulate pesticides under the Clean Water Act (CWA) as part of an effort to harmonize the methods the agency's water and pesticide offices use to address pesticides' water quality risks and move the approach toward the stricter water act standards. Many pesticides are only regulated under the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide & Rodenticide Act (FIFRA), instead of also having CWA controls, because the robust data needed for water act limits is lacking, sources say.
