HOUSE EYES FY10 BUDGET BILL CALL FOR EPA HYDRAULIC FRACKING STUDY

House appropriators have added non-binding report language to EPA's fiscal year 2010 spending bill that urges the agency to conduct an "independent" study of the risks to drinking water posed by the natural gas extraction process called hydraulic fracturing.rnThe study could result in revisions to a controversial 2005 EPA study that found no risk from the practice and could eventually help build support for efforts to repeal a law exempting "tracking" operations from EPA's Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA) requirements.
