Landmark legislation giving the Food & Drug Administration (FDA) first-time authority to regulate tobacco products may narrow EPA's primary authority to set pesticide safety levels for the products, according to pesticide industry officials.rnIndustry officials failed to convince the Senate to include an amendment that would preserve EPA's role, despite bipartisan support from Sens. Tom Harkin (D-IA) and Saxby Chambliss (R-GA), the chair and ranking Republican on the Senate Agriculture Committee.
