EPA appears to have reversed a Bush-era policy of referring controversial scientific risk studies to the National Academy of Sciences (NAS) for peer review and will instead ask the Science Advisory Board (SAB) or an independent external panel to provide provide advice and resolve conflicts, agency and other sources say.rnWhile the shift could speed external review of EPA studies and cut agency costs, some industry critics fear the move could prolong scientific uncertainty as SAB is often unable to reach consensus on complex scientific and technical matters.
