OMB APPROVES EPA PLAN TO CONSIDER TESTS OF DETERGENT CHEMICAL

The White House Office of Management & Budget (OMB) has approved an EPA proposal to conduct toxicity tests to evaluate aquatic species' chronic exposure to a controversial chemical used in industrial detergents that could result in more stringent water quality standards for the chemical.rnOMB completed its review May 4 of EPA's advance notice of proposed rulemaking (ANPRM) for testing nonyphenol (NP) and its ethoxylates (NPE) - suspected endocrine disrupters - according to OMB's Web site. The ANPRM includes an EPA plan to seek public comment on potentially several more studies that could include worker health issues.
