EPA in a recent Federal Register notice says that granting the ethanol industry's request to lift the cap on ethanol in gasoline above 10 percent (E10) could create significant problems for fuel manufacturers trying to prevent misfueling, and may also require EPA to modify fuel rules to account for a higher blend.rnEPA April 21 published the notice to seek comment on Growth Energy's March 6 petition asking for a Clean Air Act waiver to allow the use of E12 and E13, while studying the merits of lifting the cap to allow E15. Proponents say lifting the cap will boost demand for an oversupply of ethanol that has been blocked from the market. EPA must respond within 270 days of receiving the petition, in this instance by Dec. 1.
