EPA Sends CAFO Discharge Reporting Rule To White House For Review

EPA has sent its proposed concentrated animal feeding operation (CAFO) discharge reporting rule to the White House Office of Management & Budget (OMB) for review, a rule that could provide the agency with key data to determine whether facilities will have to apply for permits after federal courts have curtailed permitting requirements.According to OMB's website, EPA Aug. 8 submitted its proposed CAFO reporting rule for review, one of the final steps before the agency promulgates and accepts public comment on the proposal, which was required as part of a landmark settlement between environmentalists and EPA over discharges emanating from feedlots. EPA is required to propose the rule by Oct. 14 and issue a final rule by July 13, 2012.
