Activists Fight Biomass GHG Permit Deferral While Seeking Categorization

Environmentalists are reiterating long-running legal and other objections to EPA's proposed three-year deferral of greenhouse gas (GHG) permit requirements for biomass-fired sources, while saying that if the agency pushes ahead with the plan it needs to categorize the varying types of biomass to exempt only certain low-GHG categories of the fuel. Industry meanwhile continues to support the agency's three-year deferral, while pushing EPA to provide more certainty for proposed facilities looking to obtain Clean Air Act permits in coming years.
