Industry Seeks Cumulative Cost Review For Existing, Future EPA Air Rules

Industry groups are pushing EPA to consider the cumulative economic costs of the agency's air rules for both EPA's nascent review of existing regulations and for future rulemaking efforts in order to minimize burdens on industry, prompting a key agency official to urge businesses to provide data to EPA illustrating their concerns. The groups included their concerns in comments to EPA on how to respond to Executive Order 13563 (E.O.) for reviewing existing rules, but are also conducting studies on the economic impacts of the rules and have testified before the House oversight committee about the impact of multiple EPA air rules on the domestic manufacturing sector. Some industry officials believe that the cumulative impact of having to meet various EPA air rules can be high cost with little environmental or human health benefit.
