The House has shot down a proposal to significantly boost cleanup funding in fiscal year 2013 for the Defense Department's formerly used defense site (FUDS) program, maintaining a 15 percent cut to the program proposed by the Obama administration but opposed by state environmental regulators. But at the same time, lawmakers left open a possibility they would consider an increase in FUDS appropriations during conferencing with the Senate, which passed its FY13 defense appropriations bill out of committee Aug.
