EPA Offers Compendium Of Financial, Technical Tools For 'Auto Brownfields'

EPA has released a report offering cities and towns surrounding former auto manufacturing sites a compilation of financial, technical and other tools from various levels of government and through the private sector to develop strategies to clean up and redevelop these brownfields sites. The agency released the "Roadmap for Auto Community Revitalization" to offer resources and information to communities attempting to rebuild their local economies and blighted areas in the aftermath of the closure of hundreds of auto manufacturing and supplier plants. The report "serves as a toolbox and addendum to the progress already being accomplished by the Obama Administration," Jay Williams, executive director of the Labor Department's Office of Recovery for Automotive Communities and Workers, said in a Sept. 4 EPA press release. "With this document, our objective is to give communities further insight as they facilitate the effort of returning to economic vibrancy."
