House Appropriators Target EPA For $2.8 Billion Funding Cut In FY14

House appropriators at press time July 23 were marking up a bill that would cut EPA's fiscal year 2014 funding by $2.8 billion, or 33 percent from current funding levels, the bulk of which comes from EPA's state and tribal assistance, along with measures to block dozens of new or pending agency rules and policies. While the measure is unlikely to be enacted in its current form, Rep. Mike Simpson (R-ID), chairman of the interior and environment appropriations subcommittee, said in a statement he had to reduce and even terminate "popular programs in order to continue finding for 'critical, must-do' priorities."
