Industry Seeks Greater Role In EPA's RMP Chemical Facility Safety Update

Industry officials are pushing for greater input in EPA's effort to update its Risk Management Plan (RMP) accident prevention program, urging the agency to seek industry advice through a panel of its Clean Air Act Advisory Committee (CAAAC) before updating the RMP, and pushing for greater consideration of potential impacts on small businesses. In a Sept. 26 letter to EPA, a coalition of nine industry groups, including the Agricultural Retailers Association, the American Coatings Association, and the Fertilizer Institute urge EPA to seek advice from a currently inactive panel of the CAAAC, which could provide agency officials "with industry stakeholder advice and counsel on scientific and technical aspects" of the RMP program.
