Biofuels Advocates Fault Obama's Gas Fuels Focus, Tout RFS' Superiority

Biofuels advocates are faulting President Obama's State of the Union address for promoting the use of natural gas as a transportation fuel that can secure significant greenhouse gas (GHG) cuts, saying Obama instead should be focusing on touting EPA's renewable fuel standard (RFS) which aims to cut GHGs through more biofuels production. In his Jan. 28 speech, Obama promised to "cut the red tape" to spur the construction of natural gas infrastructure to fuel cars and trucks, yet he did not once mention biofuels production. "If extracted safely, [natural gas is] the bridge fuel that can power our economy with less of the carbon pollution that causes climate change," he said.
