EPA To Formally Propose Revised Climate NSPS For New Power Plants

After a long delay, EPA will formally publish its re-proposed climate new source performance standard (NSPS) for new power plants in the Jan. 8 Federal Register, starting a 60-day public comment period on the plan to limit greenhouse gases (GHGs) at new coal- and natural gas-fired facilities that critics say effectively bans new coal units by requiring installation of carbon capture and sequestration (CCS) technology. The proposal's publication date is also significant because it will become the rule's effective date once a final version is promulgated one year later.
